Treat your pet to homemade pet food

Your pets deserve the best nutrition you can provide.

Have you ever wanted to make truly complete and balanced homemade food for your dog or cat? But were confused by all the conflicting recipe advice? Well, now your wait is over.

Pet Diet Designer introduces the world's first consumer-based pet nutrition software that gives pet guardians a fool-proof way to create personalized meals for their pets.

Pet Diet Designer for Windows is a software program that lets you create scientifically complete and balanced meals for your cat or dog. Pet Diet Designer takes the complexity out of pet nutrition. The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) states that “pet nutrition is very complicated and unique to species and individual animals.” The AVMA does not recommend homemade pet food because of this.

The March 1, 2008 issue of the AVMA's Journal contains an article which highlighted some disturbing trends:
  • Dogs fed home-prepared diets had a greater prevalence of health problems.
  • Many home-prepared diets are not nutritionally balanced and can result in such complications as thiamine deficiency, thyroid disease, loss of bone density, and neurological deficits.
  • Cats fed homemade diets are at high risk for an inflammatory condition called pansteatitis (a disease caused by a diet high in polyunsaturated fats and low in Vitamin E).
  • Homemade raw meat diets present a significant risk of bacterial contamination.
But veterinarians have frowned on homemade diets for many years prior to 2008. Typically a veterinarian gets taught a one-semester course on nutrition during vet school. Not only is this inadequate to have an understanding of a topic as complex as pet nutrition, but the course is most often taught by a representative of a Pet Food Manufacturer. So vets are taught about kibble and canned food, and little else. There seems to be a conflict of interest here. Further, vets make a good income selling manufactured pet food. There is little incentive for them to recommend homemade diets.

In the spring of 2007, pet owners were hit with the largest pet food recall in history. Hundreds of pets died and thousands of pets were critically injured. This was a turning point for the consumer. Many pet owners joined the millions of people who have successfully been feeding homemade pet food all their lives.

But the problem still remains. Pet nutrition is a complex topic. How can someone really know that their pet is getting the proper nutrition for their lifestage?

Pet Diet Designer was born out of the need to solve this problem. No longer can a veterinarian or the AVMA (or any other vet association) recommend not feeding a homemade diet. Pet owners can now prepare complete and balanced meals that are tailor-made for each individual pet to the highest standard in pet nutrition that currently exists. And it is so easy to do! Pet Diet Designer does all the complicated nutrient calculations for you. You just concentrate on preparing wholesome, delicious meals that your pets will drool over.

It’s like having your own personal animal nutritionist!

By using Pet Diet Designer you can ensure that your cat is getting a diet that is just right in polyunsaturated fats and Vitamin E. You can create meals with balanced nutrition so your dog has a reduced prevalence of health problems caused by inadequate or poorly balanced nutrients.
